Bilkent Education Campus in Malatya

As part of the “Bilkent Eastern Provinces Project” initiated by Bilkent University, a second school is being established in Malatya following the one in Erzurum. The foundation of the school was laid on August 25, 2022, with the participation of Chair of the Bilkent University Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Gülsev Kale, Rector Prof. Dr. Kürşat Aydoğan, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Erdal Erel, and Mayor of Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Selahattin Gürkan.

The campus will be located on a 350-decare plot in Fırıncı Neighborhood of Battalgazi District, near İnönü University. It will include a kindergarten, primary school, middle school, and high school. Once all buildings are completed, the school will accommodate 900 students, and four residential buildings for teachers will also be constructed as part of the project. According to the three-phase construction plan, the first phase, whose foundation has been laid, will include kindergarten and primary school classroom blocks, a sports hall, a multipurpose hall, a cafeteria, a library, and one residential building, totaling 18,000 m² of indoor space. The second phase will see the construction of middle school buildings, followed by the high school buildings in the final phase, with the entire campus projected to have approximately 47,000 m² of indoor space.

Rector Prof. Dr. Kürşat Aydoğan stated: “We are building a campus on a very large area that includes a library, sports hall, and staff residences. The school will implement a unique curriculum beginning from kindergarten and continuing through the final year of high school. We have successfully implemented similar projects in Ankara and Erzurum. In our campuses in the eastern provinces, at least 70% of students receive full scholarships.”

The construction will prioritize sustainable energy efficiency, including natural ventilation, high thermal insulation, and building orientation based on sunlight. In addition, PV solar panels will be used to supply electric energy to the campus.
