Our school’s Ali Doğramacı Primary-Secondary School Library, planned to open in the second semester of the 2025-26 academic year, is a spacious and well-equipped living and learning space shared by both primary and secondary school students. With a total usage area of approximately 1,000 square meters, it offers students and teachers access to information in a modern and comfortable environment.
Structural Features and Design of the Library
The library is functionally designed with separate sections for primary and secondary school students, comprising 207.25 m² for primary school and 558.51 m² for secondary school use. Additionally, there is a library staff room (32.74 m²), a storage room (14.47 m²), and a mezzanine floor (155.43 m²). The ceiling height is a spacious 570 cm, creating an airy atmosphere. With a capacity to accommodate over 160 people, the library allows students to study individually or in groups. Inside the library, a quiet reading corner and a computer area offer solutions catering to different learning needs.
Located in the J Block, the library’s design combines aesthetics and functionality. Wooden panels on the walls, carpeted flooring, and exposed concrete supports create a modern yet warm appearance. The ceiling features acoustic panels made of wood wool, which provide sound insulation for a quiet working environment. Pendant lighting combined with natural light maximizes daylight use while ensuring adequate illumination.

Purpose and Collection of the Library
The primary goal of our library is to effectively support the school’s education and teaching programs, assist teachers’ professional development, and holistically nurture the academic and personal growth of our students. The library will provide access to various information resources to help all users develop critical thinking skills and meet their information needs.
Accordingly, the library collection will consist of a continuously updated and wide-ranging array of information sources. The collection will include printed and digital books, periodicals, reference materials, and audiovisual materials. Housing approximately 20,000 resources, the library will offer materials not only in Turkish but also in foreign languages. Additionally, access to all databases within Bilkent University will be provided, enabling students and teachers to reach a broad network of information. Equipped with a system that allows users to easily conduct independent research, the library will be managed with the modern and efficient "SirsiDynix Symphony" automation system, used for the first time in Turkey by Bilkent University.
Library Usage and Educational Activities
At the Ali Doğramacı Primary-Secondary School Library, students will receive training on academic integrity, plagiarism, and proper citation practices. Throughout the school year, all primary school classes will use the library during designated lesson times to support curriculum topics, and in courses requiring research, students will actively use the library for source investigation.
Our library, which will also be available for after-school use, will be much more than a book storage space; it will be a living learning center that facilitates students’ access to information, develops their research skills, and fosters awareness of academic integrity.
